National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology
The National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), formerly known as the DOEACC Society, is an Autonomous Scientific Society operating under the administrative control of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. It was established to promote Human Resource Development and related activities in the fields of Information, Electronics, and Communications Technology (IECT).
NIELIT plays a vital role in enhancing digital literacy and technical education across India. The institute conducts both formal and non-formal education programs and continuously develops industry-relevant training in emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cyber Security, Blockchain, Internet of Things (IoT), Cloud Computing, and Electronics System Design & Manufacturing (ESDM).
NIELIT has a strong national presence with centers across 56 locations in India, including major cities such as Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Ranchi, Patna, Shimla, Guwahati, Srinagar, and many others.
In addition to its physical centers, NIELIT is connected with 750+ affiliated institutes providing long-term skill programs and 8500+ facilitation centers delivering digital competency training across India. This vast network enables access to technology education even in remote regions.
In a historic development, NIELIT has been granted the status of a Deemed-to-be University (de-novo) through Gazette Notification dated 15 July 2024. The main campus is located in Ropar, Punjab with several constituent units across India, including Aizawl, Agartala, Aurangabad, Calicut, Gorakhpur, Imphal, Kohima, Patna, Srinagar, Kekri, and Itanagar.
With this recognition, NIELIT aims to evolve into a Digital University, delivering high-quality technology-driven education and promoting digital learning opportunities nationwide.
NIELIT offers educational programs ranging from school-level courses to advanced doctoral research initiatives. It is one of the few institutions in India providing such a wide spectrum of education and skill development.
Formal courses are approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), while non-formal courses follow the National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) and are endorsed by the National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET).
NIELIT functions as a national examination body and has conducted examinations for more than 1 crore candidates and offline assessments for over 50 lakh participants.
It has also conducted recruitment exams for various government organizations including MeitY, NIC, STQC, SAMEER, NTRO, STPI, CPWD and many others. Additionally, NIELIT accredits institutes to conduct IT and electronics-related courses in the non-formal education sector.
NIELIT also implements research, consultancy services, and large-scale IT projects including the National Population Register (NPR) data digitization and Agriculture Census data processing.
